Mesmer XX is an 18+ game that depicts explicit sex acts and explores various kinks including dronification, bondage, mind control, hypnosis, and body modification.

"Double Cross" returns to the setting of Mesmer, following a freelance espionage agent and their close friend as they investigate what really goes on in the Mesmer drone conversion facility.

A top down 2D action stealth game inspired by games like Metal Gear. I've been wanting to make Mesmer into a game with some proper gameplay for a long time, but could never settle on a genre that would let me tell the story properly. Strawberry Jam 9 was the push I needed to  simplify my plan for the game and start over.

This is essentially a demo, and development for this game will continue after Strawberry Jam 9 has concluded. I've got a solid framework to play with, your mission is far from over.

Controls

Move with WASD
Interact with Spacebar
Dash with Shift
Attacks are aimed at your mouse cursor
Melee with Left Click
Shoot with Right Click

Known Bugs

  • There is a specific dialogue line when picking up the weapons that can crash the game.
    • A fix for this has been made, but I'm still not sure it will 100% work for everyone. A more robust fix for this is being worked on.
  • Some enemies can be interrupted and stuck in their animations.
  • Enemy pathfinding sucks right now, lol. That's gonna be overhauled in the future so they don't get stuck on each other or flicker in place.

really enjoyed what I played. Solid base for a game, and looking  forward to more! Something with a lot of games with kink themes I've noticed is they tend to have more of a "lose to see kink" thing frequently. I loved the final scene in this demo and was wondering if in the future there were plans to have more "gameplay kink" interactions that can occur to the player without needing to game over. Once again, solid game and looking forward to where it goes!

Damn, that was good, but it might be a bit dark for me, lol.

Does the demo version end after the second 'water' scene?

Yes that is as far as it goes right now

Well, excited to see how it continues!

DEFINITELY enjoyed this game. in a sense I'll say I'm lucky it was short because I could feel the same kind of hyperfixation I had with Drone Cafe coming on towards the end lmao.

Fundamentals of the game are good and seem promising. The only real critique I have with the gameplay as-is has probably already been mentioned, just being that you might want to adjust  wall and/or projectile hitboxes to avoid shots colliding with the wall above you when shooting too close to it.

I softlocked it https://drive.google.com/file/d/11ILSg-tiOya8ht4tJRfY24aBVk8Jq8v-/view?usp=sharing

The dialogue reminds me of Disco Elysium in the way it's structured and the speakers are titled! I like it. The writing in the opening sequence in the lake was sublime- but, to be honest, it remained so throughout. Music was phenomenal, as well.

"Kill him."
"Kill him now."

Love it, keep up the amazing work. I love games like this, especially if you can get some game over art at some point.

Well this took a turn I certainly wasn't expecting! Definitely looking forward to more when it comes!

Also the Harper easter egg was pretty cool.

Oh gosh this is looking amazing!!! Toy cant wait to see where this goes.

Would love to see the progression of the goo/latex on the character sprite as well hehe, and maybe in the future add lovense support so lower the health, the greater the vibration percent

oh this is fantastic. the art is a treat. the writing is delicious. the twist at the end got me good. i can't wait to play the rest of this!

Best game of the Jam right here! There are a few really good ones but this one managed to get me more invested! Good job!

Sadly a bit too hard, but it's a cool game nonetheless!

Was there a particular section or maybe an enemy behavior that you found too  difficult to deal with?

I'm considering ways to adjust enemies for easier and harder difficulties.

Mainly the drones cops, while saving the researchers. So many, and so much to observe and manage, dying becomes a small chore.

Thanks for the feedback, you're not alone in struggling a bit on the last challenge!

I added a difficulty option in the start menu that makes them chase less aggressively for now. I'll look at organizing them so there are just fewer on easier difficulties in the future.

Is there any chance for game over art?

Very nice!  Hope to see this continued :)

The guard behavior can be a bit glitchy (I've seen them hyperdash away after seeing me hide in a locker, for instance, also rescued techs can get stuck walking against patrolling guards), and somehow my gun stopped working entirely after the first time I used it, but it's a nice little stealth game with good characterization. Narratively, I do like the "Oral fixation" intrusive thoughts., it's a nice touch given the snake/mouse pair. Viper and Rowan make a good duo, and the character designs and artworks are cool.

Yeah I realized pretty late that the pathing is gonna need an overhaul, grid based is a little rough for this kind of game.

Really glad to hear you enjoyed the characters!

Speaking of enjoying the characters, you remind me of the option to customize both pronouns and what each character looked like under their clothes, which is a nice touch that I'm not used to seeing for games with "established" characters. Definitely one of the games from this jam I'll be recommending to people.

is there a way to full screen?

Currently it runs at a fixed resolution

This game is so cool!

Incredibly fun and hot game!~

Not sure if this was a crash or just the end of the demo, but when the first guard gets droned, the game seemed to freeze/crash when the option for the tutorial was selected.

It's a somewhat comon issue on firefox that I haven't been able to work out yet. Did you also play through firefox?

Nope. I'm on Brave. However, both are somewhat more on the privacy focused side of things. Might be a caching/cookie issue or conflict with the save system? It wasn't crashing when saving but I haven't actually tried to load one yet.

Just loaded the save and it loaded without crashing, however, the UI or at least the health and such on the bottom right didn't load. After dying to the guard that entered, and loading from that screen, the UI displayed properly but it still crashed at the tutorial selection when selecting "Answer". Further testing, it crashes on both the "skip tutorial" option as well as "Answer". Will try on a different browser shortly.

Downloaded Chrome and it still crashed at the same spot. I don't know if it's relevant but the console shows this right when you select an option.

2index.js:459 res://Scenes/Dialogue Balloon/balloon.tscn

I dunno' if the "2" right before index.js:459 means it's trying to load the same thing twice, but it seemed like the only line in the console that showed that little number in a bubble just to the left of "index.js:459".

Best of luck with the bug squashing! Seems like a very fun game!

I've done some tweaking and got it working on my end, would love to know if you can get past the bug now. Thanks so much for the detailed responses!

got the same crash only i downloaded it and am playing localy.

It gives an error called "content-warningac46e200.json" maybe that's the problem?

That might actually be something, thank you!

Oooo, neat!
